Community Development through the Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture

The project has been initiated in 2011 in order to improve the community livelihoods by creating opportunities for low-income families to better manage and promote their living conditions through the establishment of short-term training courses on agricultural techniques, self-help groups and community food security initiatives.  KAD has introduced this project because about 80% of Cambodian people are farmers living by dependence upon agricultural work. Currently, the project is being implemented in Vor Sar commune, Samraong Tong district, Kampong Speu province by providing the low-come families with agricultural technique training, vegetable seeds and species of chicken and fish. Prior to the beginning of the project, the survey on the needs and problems of villagers and situation in target areas were conducted and then the target people were mobilized into groups. Finally, the Village Development Associations were formed of which the target people were the members. The project has encouraged the members of Village Development Associations to raise animals such as fish, chicken, ducks, pigs etc. and to plant vegetables and fruit trees.
