Malnutrition is a big problem for disadvantaged children living in rural areas due to poverty and lack of education and ideas on nutritious food for local community people. Malnutrition is an obstacle to both bodily and mental development of children. Currently, KAD has provided the 4-5 year-old children with nutritious food in Samraong Tong district, Kampong Speu province twice a month. Before the provision of nutritious food started, the children
were weighed and their heights were measured and the staff would monitor their weights and heights every month, especially before each time of eating. The nutritious food provided was rice porridge which was cooked with the mixture of rice, pumpkin, pork, fish, salt, fish source, sugar and natural tree leaves. The children who were provided with nutritious food came from Vor Sar and Trapaing Kong communes and who were allowed to attend the kindergarten classes. They were selected from low income families. This activity was done in cooperation and participation of village health volunteers, village chiefs, commune councils and commune health centers. The communities were very happy that KAD carried out the Community Early Childhood Intervention providing their children with education and health care.
