Phorn Sophai is female, seven years old, living with a very poor grandmother and mother in Kokphnov village, Vor Sar commune, Samraong Tong district, Kampong Speu province. Her grandmother is 61 years old, earning her living by selling dessert in the village to get small income to additionally support the family, but about one month ago she slipped and fell prone on the floor that seriously injured her. Since then she hasn’t recovered from her condition yet and has become incapacitated that has made the family living situation get worse and worse. In addition, she is in need of money for treatment. However at home she can do some small things like cooking, house sweeping, washing and washing-up.

Sophai’s mother is Chum Mony, 29 years old and works for the garment factory. She goes to work by a taxi van for which she pays USD10 per month. She leaves early in the morning and returns home in the evening, so she has no time to take care of her daughter. Currently she has to work alone to support the family, so her life is very hard. Sophai’s father is Phorn Phalla, 30 years old, unemployed. He has been imprisoned for two years on a charge of narcotic drug trafficking. This is the third time he has been staying in the prison. When he was first arrested and jailed, he promised his wife that he would have stopped both using and trafficking narcotic drugs any more as well as committing other debaucheries, but after he had been set free, he did the same thing. This time Sophai’s father still said he has now learned his lesson and promised his wife that he would repair his fault, stop doing bad things and try to work to feed the family if he is delivered from jail again.

Sophai has neither brothers nor sisters. She now studies at grade 2. Her study result is medium. She has to prepare herself for school and self-learning. At home she has to complete her homework given by the teacher before helping her grandmother with some small work like house sweeping, cooking, washing-up and dried clothes collection and folding. At night time, she reads and writes her lessons before going to bed. When living together with her father, domestic violence often happened to the family, especially at the time of being drunk and addicted in narcotic drug. He always threatened to demand money from her mother to buy both alcohol and narcotic drug and after that he caused domestic violence, for example, he broke the door, water jar and cooking pans with an axe, he beat his daughter and shouted loudly to make noise to the neighbors. Sophai briefed on the violence she experienced that one day her father was deeply drunk and had a conflict with her mother because he couldn’t demand the money from her as expected that made him furious and then he hit the child. Because she was frightened, Sophai ran away and hid herself in the bush behind the house and then she fell asleep over there. Sometimes, when her father made trouble in the family, her mother always ordered to run away to safe place like hiding herself in the neighbors’ houses. When recollecting this story, Sophai was so sad, but however, she said that she still missed her father and even wished that he would mend his ways and try hard to work to raise the family after leaving the prison.

Currently, there isn’t anybody in the family paying attention to her situation so that she lives a very hard life, for instance, she doesn’t have enough nutritious food to eat, school materials, uniforms, clothes and when ill she isn’t provided with good health care. She is well-mannered, corrigible and smart. She likes reading the books.
